A decade ago I walked up a few creaky wooden stairs onto a covered front porch full of piles of shoes and entered Robin Jackson’s house in Portland, oregon with the Songwriter Soiree in full swing - a monthly open mic, with guest musicians, a fun neighborhood vibe, and a community that instantly welcomed me in and gave me a plate of food and a chair.

You may have heard or seen Robin Jackson perform previously in March 4th Marching Band or Vagabond Opera, or more recently in 2019 with The Polish Ambassador. He’s a multi-instrumentalist, a man about town, playing with his six-piece band, The Caravan, when he’s not facilitating retreats or touring with other artists. Robin has released 2 albums, Dark Stars (2017) and Dust Diaries (2012), has 10+ years experience touring the world with bands, and hosts the Soiree Retreat, a four-day event open to anyone interested in art, the craft of songwriting, learning music, or enjoying community and connection.

Robin talks about life on the road, life after the road, his passion for creating community through hosting music events, and how those events have changed his life.

Welcome to Episode 9.
